Behind the Facade – Surreal Digital Art by Erika Litteral

Behind the Facade
Behind the Facade explores the difference between what we reveal to the world and what exists beneath the surface.
At first glance, the artwork is an explosion of color, movement, faces, figures, and intricate forms. But the longer you look, the more there is to discover. A human profile dominates the composition, yet within and around it are other faces, animals, architectural forms, and fragments that seem to emerge from hidden layers. The imagery overlaps and transforms, making it difficult to tell where one figure ends and another begins.
The facade represents the version of ourselves that other people see. Behind it exists an entire inner world — memories, emotions, imagination, experiences, fears, dreams, and pieces of ourselves that may never be completely visible to anyone else.
The vivid oranges, yellows, blues, greens, and deep shadowed areas create a contrast between what is illuminated and what remains concealed. Like a person, the artwork can be understood differently depending on how closely you look. From a distance, you see the whole. Up close, you begin discovering the individual pieces hidden within it.
Behind the Facade is ultimately about complexity. We are more than our outward appearance and more than the small portion of ourselves that others are allowed to see. There is always another layer, another story, and something more waiting behind the facade.
